Operation and Set-Up: The RVS/04 can be set up and operated by direct cable connection to a PC from the RJ45 port or by remote connection using the Internet and the Client software.

Video Resolution: Camera images can be displayed and transmitted in a choice of full D1 (704x480) (1 camera only) or CIF (352x240) (all 4 cameras).

Video Compression: As with all Sentry R Series systems, the RVS/04 Video Server uses H.264 (MPEG4 Part 10) hardware compression, thus relieving the system CPU of these most intensive tasks. H.264 provides superior video compression and smaller frame sizes than other compression methods, thus providing substantially better quality and faster remote video than most other Video Servers and/or IP cameras. Recorded frame sizes can be as low as 0.5KB, although to provide good video quality, frame sizes of 2K to 4K should be chosen.

Alarm Functions: 4 Alarm In and 2 Alarm Out connectors are provided as standard and can be associated with respective cameras.

System Log: The System Log is a database of major operational changes. It allows searching by “Motion and Alarm Events”, “General System Events”, “User Login/Logout history”. Events can be double clicked to play the associated video.

Recording Speeds (DVRs): By using H.264 hardware compression, recording speeds can always be a constant 30fps per camera. Speed can be individually camera configured to be slower than 30fps.

Video Compression: All Sentry R Series systems use H.264 (MPEG4 Part 10) hardware compression/decompression, thus relieving the system CPU of these most intensive tasks. H.264 provides superior video compression and gives better quality recordings with smaller frame sizes than other compression methods. Recorded frame sizes can be as low as 0.5KB.

Title, Date and Time On Screen Display: The individual camera title plus date and time can be set in a range of colors and locations on each camera window, for display and recording. Display color changes from light to dark and back again, to provide a contrast with the video background color.

Individual Camera Adjustment: Brightness, contrast, hue and saturation are all adjustable for each individual camera.

PTZ Camera Support: Various models of PTZ cameras can be controlled through the software, both locally and remotely, using an RS-485 add-on adapter. Several control protocols are supported.

Multiple Display Options(DVRs): Live video can be displayed in single camera or various multi-camera modes. Multi-camera display can be immediately switched to single camera by a mouse double-click on the desired camera image (and back again by mouse double-click). In addition, the display can be switched from GUI mode to Full Screen (and back again) by a single right button mouse click.

Live Display and Recording(DVRs): Concurrent recording of live video and playback of recorded video is supported.

Recording Choices(DVRs): Recording is selectable by camera as continuous, “on alarm” or "on motion". Motion detection is performed by the software and sensitivity can be set. A schedule of recording can be set by camera, by type of recording and by time and date.

Mask Function(DVRs): Areas for "motion recognition" can be masked per camera image. Multiple mask areas per image are allowed.

Recording Frame Size and Quality(DVRs): Video recording can be set to a Constant Bit Rate or a Variable Bit Rate. A Variable Bit Rate will vary the compressed frame sizes to give a constant image quality and speed. A Constant Bit Rate can be set from a given range of MB/Hour and will result in varying image quality.

Pre- and Post-Alarm Recording(DVRs): Both Pre- and Post-alarm recording times can be set from 3 to 12 seconds.

Digital Map Functions: A digital map of the surveilled area can be imported and the positions of all cameras and alarm devices shown on the map with icons. On alarm ( or motion detection) the map will automatically pop-up with the triggered alarm device and/or camera flashing. By double-clicking a flashing camera icon, the video from that camera is displayed on screen.

Audio Recording: One audio channel per video channel can be recorded with all Sentry R Series security systems. Recorded audio can be played back in total synch with single camera video playback.

Communications and Client Software: Remote communication is supported using the Client software in remote PCs, via TCP/IP. Video and Audio can be received in a remote client system from all R Series devices in a single remote PC, concurrently. Video and audio from DVRs can be live or recorded. DVRs and Video Servers can be set-up from a remote client PC, with the appropriate password. R Series DVRs can also be accessed using an Internet browser.

Remote Video Resolution and Quality(DVRs): The resolution and quality of remotely communicated video can be specified independent of locally recorded video quality and resolution. The higher the quality and resolution the lower the transfer speed and vice versa.

Remote System Recording/Accessing: Remote PCs can record locally with client software and host (server) recordings can be accessed remotely by the client software. Groups of cameras from different R Series DVRs and Video Servers can be defined in the client software for watching separately or together.

User Passwords: Passwords can be used to provide a wide range of user permissions ranging from the ability to view just a few cameras to the ability to be able to perform all functions. In addition, the server can be locked so that nothing can be changed. Client software uses a different set of passwords to the Servers, to avoid contention between the two.
